How to judge whether the activated carbon in the activated carbon filter is still effective?

Activated carbon in activated carbon filter is still an effective method to judge whether it is still effective. Take a certain amount of new activated carbon and use colored water for adsorption experiment. For example, use mineral water bottle, take active carbon from bottle cap (the amount of activated carbon can be determined by itself), add clear water into bottle (the amount can be determined by itself, but not too much), then pour active carbon into bottle, drop a few drops of yellow medicine or methyl blue (the amount can be determined by itself). Make it yourself, but not too much. After a certain period of shaking or standing, take out the solution in the bottle (no activated carbon), this is solution A. In addition, repeat the above steps, only adding drugs instead of activated carbon, as solution B without activated carbon treatment. Finally, we can use the activated carbon as the experimental comparison, and see where the water color in the bottle is between solution A or B, then we can judge whether the activated carbon still has the use effect. Attention should be paid to fixing the amount of activated carbon, water, drugs and shaking time.
Supplementary Notes:
1. Porosity of activated carbon can be roughly divided into large, neutral and micro-pore. These three kinds of pore exist in each activated carbon. As for which kind of pore accounts for more, it depends on the material and manufacturing conditions of raw materials.
2. It is suggested to use coconut shell activated carbon because coconut shell activated carbon has higher adsorption capacity, apparent density is mostly less than 0.45 g/ml and ash content is mostly less than 5%. The lower the proportion and ash content of activated carbon, the less inorganic salts and impurities are in it, the higher the proportion of pore is, so the adsorption capacity is relatively higher, while the proportion and ash content of coal is relatively higher. That's not always the case, if it's handled specially beforehand. And most of the activated carbon that my younger brother contacted for solvent adsorption is coconut shell material, so I recommend using coconut shell activated carbon. In fact, the use of coal is not a problem and cheaper, as long as it is not recycled carbon in the factory, because who knows what remains inside.
3. Temperature control in the activation furnace is very important in the manufacture of activated carbon, because the adsorption capacity and breakdown rate of activated carbon are determined by the temperature, because the higher the temperature, the easier the activated carbon is to burn into ash, but the more the adsorbed substance can be removed.
